2022 Results – Developing Remarkable People

Developing Remarkable People… what makes a remarkable person?

Examination results are just one aspect of a Berkhamsted education and one that at this time of year attracts the headlines,  but we know our pupils are more than just their grades – at this point in their educational journey they have already developed so many life skills that will help them to live happy and fulfilling lives.

The confidence to be adventurous and try new things knowing that they can pick themselves up, dust themselves off and try again if at first they don’t succeed; taking the opportunity where possible to reflect on how they can help others and ensure they are doing good. Finally, turning to Berkhamsted’s third value – we encourage each and every pupil to achieve their best, to aim high but with integrity. And today we celebrate the achievement of this cohort in returning to the examination hall after 2 years of Covid disruption and embracing this opportunity to aim high.

The success of our Year 11 has exceeded expectation and achieved 52.8% at grade 8 or 9 and 75% at grades 7 to 9. These grades are significantly better than when pupils last sat public exams and only marginally lower than when Teacher Assessed Grades were awarded.

“There is a lot to be happy about today” claimed Headteacher of Berkhamsted Boys, Mr Tom Hadcroft “our pupils have aimed high and achieved a record-breaking set of results. They have used the skills of resilience, determination, and perseverance to realize their dreams.”

Ms Watson, Headteacher of Berkhamsted Girls also commented “Through hard work and collaboration with teachers and peers, our students have achieved an outstanding set of results. They now have a wonderful opportunity ahead of them, as they move to the Sixth Form, where they will continue to grow and develop into remarkable young adults. We couldn’t be prouder of this year group of Berkhamstedians and all they have achieved.”

In addition to the record results, many of our highest academic performers are also involved playing each weekend in our top teams for Rugby, Lacrosse, Netball, Football and Cricket.  In 2020, this cohort of girls were national champions in Netball. Many pupils also took to the stage where they joined a cast of Year 7-13 to perform SHREK the Musical, ventured outdoors where they were once again able to safely undertake DofE expeditions and participated within the local community, where they hosted our annual Senior Citizens Tea Party at the end of the summer.

We wish all our pupils all the best as they leave Berkhamsted Girls and Berkhamsted Boys and start the next step of their educational journey.
