Berkhamsted announced as Education Choices Awards finalist
We are delighted to announce that Berkhamsted has been selected as a finalist in the Education Choices Awards 2025 for Diversity and Inclusion in Sport, Working with Local Charities and Supporting Sustainability.
These awards recognise our commitment to serving others through a range of inclusive sport opportunities, charity partnerships, and sustainability initiatives.
At Berkhamsted, we believe that everyone should be able to enjoy sport and exercise. Through a dynamic and varied curriculum, alongside competitive and extra-curricular opportunities, we instil a lifelong love of sport and exercise in all our pupils. Our bursary programme and links with local schools and pathway programmes ensures more young people have access to the facilities and training opportunities available at Berkhamsted.
Our pupils are heavily involved in our charity schemes and demonstrate a strong desire to serve others through raising money for both local and global charities. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the entirety of Berkhamsted Schools Group raised £23,044 for a variety of charities. These ranged from global organisations such as Crisis, WWF and Save the Children, to local charities such as Watford Women’s Centre, Home Starts Herts and Swan Youth. Co-curricular projects like the Social Entrepreneurship Programme also combine business and teamwork skills with raising money for good causes, developing pupils into forward-thinking, socially conscious entrepreneurs.
Finally, we are thrilled to be recognised for our sustainability efforts. Our pupil-led initiatives start with the Pre-Prep Eco Council and continue to thrive across the Schools Group, with pupils driving change both in School and our local community. What’s more, our newly opened Sixth Form Centre has a sustainable design which includes solar panel roofing, a green/blue roof to reduce water runoff, thermal insulation and narrow roof lights to save on artificial lighting. This design will set the blueprint for future developments at Berkhamsted, highlighting our commitment to building a brighter future for our pupils.
A huge thank you to the efforts of staff, parents and pupils in embodying our core value of ‘Serve Others’ across all these areas!
