At Berkhamsted, we believe in giving every individual the information and skills to understand their options.

We understand that their future career might not yet exist, so we instead focus on offering many opportunities to engage with the world of work and explore each pupil’s passions.

All pupils can book 1-2-1 sessions with our full-time Careers advisor, attend weekly lectures and enjoy subject-specific industry trips and experiences.

This is one of two specialist insight days ran at Sixth, the other being medicine, that are ran annually to help students understand more about these competitive careers. Empowering leadership and academic skills Close

Developing leadership is essential to Berkhamsted Sixth, and we offer many empowering opportunities for students to take on responsibilities and make real change in the School. One of these opportunities is the Learning Leaders programme, where selected Year 12 students cascade their learning to their peers and for younger years.

This week, our Learning Leaders received a series of lectures to help them understand the School’s research-based approach to learning and how it is grounded in metacognitive research. This will aid them not only in understanding the mechanics behind their own classroom experiences, but in guiding others to reflect on how they can learn to unlock potential.

Inspiring pupils to explore every option Close

In order to get students thinking about their opportunities abroad, Berkhamsted Sixth and Year 11 students were visited by ‘The University Guys,’ a university fair experience dedicated to showing students the range of opportunities that lie beyond Britain.

The university fair not only highlighted specific institutions, but the opportunities they represented. Director of ‘The University Guys,’ Sheena Mehta, shared the purpose behind these hand-picked institutions. There were European universities offering English-language courses, universities where you could enter with an ‘undeclared’ major, huge universities with hundreds of degree programs, and niche institutions such as hospitality schools. With over 4,000 different colleges in the USA and over 200 in Canada, Sheena wants to help students understand that their perfect-fit university might very well be abroad.
