The creative life of our pupils at Berkhamsted is enriched by their experiences both within and outside the taught Art curriculum. We aim to open young minds to visual culture in all its forms, exposing young people to a huge range of media and processes whilst celebrating success through ‘Artwork of the Week’ slide shows in Chapel and the termly showreel in end-of-term assemblies.
Fostering a curious, observant and critical eye underpins the philosophy of the department. At its core, a passionate and collaborative team of teachers, whose specialisms cover the broadest possible range of creative disciplines, go above and beyond to serve the School community in all they do. Our ‘open door’ culture encourages students to attend after school Open Studios, lunch clubs, annual residential trips and submit work for competitions and work experience.
Taking photographs, creating digital stencils, cutting paper and preparing painted surfaces, Year 9 prospective GCSE pupils had a wide range of skills to develop in our ECW workshop yesterday. We were lucky to welcome @sunslingshot to the department and learnt a lot from his expertise. Thank you to all involved, we had a fantastic day! ☀️🎨

Today we welcomed local artist SUNIL PAWAR @sunslingshot to the art department to kick off Extra Curricular Week 🎨 Pupils in year 9 who have opted to take GCSE Art in September had the opportunity to take part in a portraiture workshop. With Sunil`s expert help, pupils explored new techniques digitally before taking these images into more traditional stencil techniques.
