Nursery Life

At Berkhamsted Day Nursery we provide a range of extra activities for the children to enjoy, which are led by professionals in their field.

These activities are included in our fee package and are in addition to the many activities that your child will enjoy during the day with our staff.

Monday: Beats and Bops

Emma is a skilled musician who introduces music to the children in a fun and interactive way. Through singing and actions they learn about different styles of music, instruments, tone and tempo and as well as having a basic introduction to musical symbols.

Tuesday: Spanish

Mrs Barrios-Salamo is an experienced Spanish teacher who loves the Early Years. As well as working with children at Berkhamsted Pre-Prep, she sings and reads to the nursery children in Spanish. Her interactive, colourful activities mesmerise the children and the session is always over too soon.

Wednesday: Dinky Dancers

Mrs Bennett is highly experienced in teaching dance and creative music. Dinky Dancers provides a fabulous dance, movement, action, music and singing experience, developing every child physically, musically and socially.

Thursday: Gym Tots

Mr Proudfoot, our sports coach, demonstrates many fun climbing, crawling and balancing activities that the children can practise with their key worker. Exploring the space and making shapes with their bodies is an exciting way for children to find out all about themselves and how they can move.

Friday: Beats and Bops

Emma is a skilled musician who introduces music to the children in a fun and interactive way. Through singing and actions they learn about different styles of music, instruments, tone and tempo and as well as having a basic introduction to musical symbols.

Facilities

Berkhamsted Day Nursery occupies a beautiful country house situated in a tranquil and idyllic environment at Haresfoot.

Babies and children can enjoy direct access to our wonderful outdoor surroundings, going on regular walks around the extensive grounds, waving to the cows in the fields or hunting for ‘minibeasts’ in the woods. We provide pushchairs so that even our youngest babies can benefit from our beautiful countryside location.

The Day Nursery also has its own large, enclosed garden with a grassed area, safety surface and tricycle track. Children love to engage in sand and water play and enjoy digging in the planting beds. A variety of climbing, push-along and wheeled toys are available everyday, with children in the older rooms enjoying free access from inside to out.

We aim to take the children out in all weathers. In the summer the children will enjoy walks and picnics in the grounds and in the winter the wellies, hats and coats go on for puddle-jumping and snowman building.

Our extensive facilities also include our sports hall, which enables the children to have a good run-round, especially on rainy weather days when being inside all day is limiting.

We have access to a range of bouncy mats, hoops, balance beams and target games and each week your child will take part in a Dinky Dancer session and a Gym Tots session led by visiting specialists, with the cost included in our fee package.

On a Thursday, the children in Puddleducks visit the Sports Hall for a PE lesson with Mr. Proudfoot, Sports Coach at Berkhamsted Pre-Prep.

We pride ourselves on the provision of a carefully selected menu at Berkhamsted Day Nursery. Our trained chef prepares nutritious and delicious meals, taking into account any specific dietary requirements. All younger babies’ food is pureed and new flavours are gradually introduced.

We encourage children to handle their food and also to take part in some of the preparation. Children regularly cook and bake with plenty of adult support!

The staff show genuine concern and care for the children and the entire organisation seems very well run and organised. We like the variety of learning activities that are included in the curriculum that encourage development from both sides of brain.

Fantastic personal knowledge of all children and obvious interest in them as people, not numbers.

There is a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere within the nursery and a real sense that all the staff and children know the children well. It is evident that children are happy, safe and secure and enjoy being around the staff and environment.
