Drop it and Read!

Drop it and Read!

This week, the Library has launched a new initiative designed to help pupils carve out time to slow down, switch off and enjoy a good book.

With the constant cognitive demands of devices, schoolwork and extracurriculars, it can be difficult to find quiet moments to read outside of the School. That’s why the Library has devised a new reading initiative to help every Berko pupil rekindle a love for good books, supporting our pupils’ wellbeing and literacy.

Every week during Form Time, pupils will be given ten uninterrupted minutes to focus on a book of their choice. This isn’t a one-off opportunity or overwhelming daily commitment, just a consistent allotted moment for pupils to disconnect from the world and immerse themselves in a story.

Amidst national declining literacy rates and in recognition of the National Year of Reading, Berkhamsted Library is going all out to encourage every pupil to rediscover the joy of reading.

Here’s a short video launching the initiative…
