A PERFECT TEN FOR BERKHAMSTED

A PERFECT TEN FOR BERKHAMSTED

Ten Berkhamsted School students are celebrating receiving Oxbridge offers at the start of 2016. Five conditional offers to Oxford and four to Cambridge have been achieved by current Year 13 students while Emma Lewis, who completed her A Levels at the School in 2015, has secured a firm offer to study Chemistry at Oxford.
The following are the 10 students who have received Oxbridge offers:
University of Oxford: Anna Broughton – Biochemistry (Trinity), Marcus Daghlian – Experimental Psychology (New College), Charlotte Lee – Medicine (Balliol), Emma Lewis – Chemistry (unconditional offer – Lincoln), Jeremy Steed – Materials Science (St Edmund Hall) and James Wilton – Law (St Hilda’s).

University of Cambridge: Omar Hatteea – Economics (Fitzwilliam), Patrick Kennedy-Hunt – Natural Sciences (St John’s), Ben van Vlymen – Economics (Homerton) and Freddy Wilkinson – Medicine (St Catharine’s).

Among the students is Charlotte Lee, Berkhamsted School’s first recipient of the prestigious Peter Gibbs Science Scholarship, which is named in honour of a much-loved teacher of Science who passed away in November 2010. This fully funded Scholarship is awarded on merit to a talented applicant to Berkhamsted Sixth who demonstrates a passion for Science and aspires to pursue a course of study in Medicine or the Sciences. The Scholarship is funded through donations by parents of the School and Old Berkhamstedians. Charlotte, who joined Berkhamsted from Dr Challoner’s in 2014, plans to study Medicine at Oxford
It is also worth noting that Freddy Wilkinson hopes to follow in the footsteps of his sister Katherine, who left the School in 2014 to study Medicine at Clare College, Cambridge.

Richard Petty, Headmaster of Berkhamsted Sixth, says: “Applying to Oxford or Cambridge is a bold move, requiring such persistence and intellectual and emotional energy. We were very impressed by the attitude and commitment of all those who applied from Berkhamsted Sixth this year.

“We’re delighted that 10 students have succeeded in gaining offers across a wide range of subjects; congratulations to them for their astonishing achievement. It is testament to their ability, hard work and curiosity built up over many years, and thanks go to all those staff who helped them to develop and fulfil their ambitions along the way.”
