Heatherton Goes Green: Distinction Awarded in Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

We are proud to announce that Heatherton has been awarded a Distinction in the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award!
This prestigious award highlights our commitment to environmental education and sustainable practices. We couldn’t be prouder of our pupils, staff, and entire school community for their hard work and dedication to making a positive impact on the planet.
At Heatherton, sustainable practice starts with the pupils themselves. With the establishment of both an Eco Club and an Eco Council, pupils work alongside staff members to organise a range of sustainable initiatives and activities. The Eco Council focuses on three areas: biodiversity, healthy living and school grounds. This focus has yielded incredible results – pupils planted fruit trees and wildlife gardens, grew their own fruit and vegetables to be used during food tech lessons, and held regular litter-picking events. These are just a few of the remarkable initiatives which demonstrate our pupils’ passion for environmental care.
Not only does the Eco Council help initiate positive environmental action, but it also empowers our pupils to become leaders from a young age. Pupils man a table at school events to educate the school community on sustainable habits and even conduct assemblies! This allows them to become more confident as public speakers and impassioned agents of change, whilst continuing to Serve Others.
We received this lovely quote from the Eco-Schools Team:
“Our team has been astounded by your amazing application. Our only concern is that we might not have been able to express in words just how impressed and grateful we are to have educators who go so far above and beyond to engage young people in environmental action.”
A huge thank you to everyone involved for their passion and effort. Together, we are making a difference!
