Heatherton Sporting Superstars

As the final whistle blows on another busy sporting term at Heatherton, and we start to warm up for the Summer term, we take a deep dive into the stats and celebratory moments that showcased our girls Aiming High with Integrity and Being Adventurous. With an 103% fixture number increase from last year, and an outstanding 100% participation rate, there have been plenty of chances for our pupils to shine.

Our netball teams have thrived in a busy season of fun and friendship. Year 5 were crowned champions of the Piper’s Corner tournament with an unbeaten record, and came second place at the St Margaret’s tournament after a nail-biting final against Manor Lodge. Year 6 clinched second place at Piper’s Corner, alongside a well-earned bronze at the IAPS Plate competition. Our girls demonstrated great teamwork, sportsmanship and some very impressive play throughout.

We love to make the most of our proximity to the Chiltern countryside by encouraging Cross Country, and we have been proud to recently celebrate some great successes. Heatherton girls smashed the Buckinghamshire Schools Championships and Lowndes Park competition with multiple podium finishes. Some particularly speedy Heatherton girls have even been selected to represent Buckinghamshire at a national level, which is an outstanding achievement.

Our keen swimmers have been making good use of Berkhamsted’s 25m pool, and impressed at the ESSA relay championships. Not only did the freestyle relay team achieve second place, with the medley team placing third, the swimmers have qualified for the Southeast Divisional round occurring in April. Next stop, Guildford Spectrum.

It’s not just competition that makes Heatherton’s sporting programme exciting to be part of. Last term, girls enjoyed a trip to try out indoor rowing machines for the first time, alongside exposure to new sports like lacrosse with International athletes. As we look ahead to summer, local partnerships and keen coaches from Berkhamsted School will introduce girls to cricket opportunities. We’ll be sure to pass on news of the first Heatherton cricket century!

All in all, Heatherton achievements are a testament to our girls’ enthusiasm and participation, and proof that they enjoy getting outdoors and being active. With all sorts of opportunities always in the pipeline, we will continue to encourage a lifelong love of sports, learning important things about character, sportsmanship and competition in the process.
