We are delighted that you are considering Berkhamsted Boys for your son’s education. At our school, we develop remarkable people by providing both challenge and support. Below you’ll find our admissions process, which will guide you from enquiry through to your child’s first day.

One of the most important early steps is completing our registration form and paying the registration fee. This confirms your child as a candidate for entry. For Year 7 entry in September 2027 and Year 9 entry in September 2028, the deadline for registration and scholarship applications is Monday 21 September 2026 by 17:00. Register for Berkhamsted Schools Group

The first step in securing your child’s place within the Berkhamsted Schools Group is to complete our online registration form. There is a non‑refundable Registration Fee of £224 per child. Once registered, you’ll be considered an official candidate, and our Admissions Team will be in touch to guide you through the next stages.

For Year 7 entry in September 2027 and Year 9 entry in September 2028, the deadline for registration and scholarship applications is Monday 21 September 2026 by 17:00.

Year 7 September 2027 Entry: Entrance Test and Holistic Assessment Day

Entry Requirements

Candidates seeking 11+ entry to Berkhamsted Boys will be required to take the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB) Common Pre-Test between Monday 5 October – Friday 9 October 2026, sat at their current school.


Entry Assessment

We will invite those whose scores indicate that they will be able to cope with our curriculum to a Holistic Assessment Day. Invites will be sent on Monday 19 October 2026.

The Holistic Assessment Day will be like a day in the life of a Senior School pupil and will include:

  • an interview
  • a practical leadership exercise
  • an academic discussion
  • a problem-solving exercise
  • a sporting activity
  • drama
  • a creative writing opportunity

Every element of the day will be observed and assessed, and we will use the observations and assessments to seek to offer places to pupils who will benefit most from our ambitious, adventurous and busy curriculum.

Year 9 September 2028: Entrance Test and Holistic Assessment Day

Entry Requirements

We set entry examinations for all children wishing to enter our Senior Schools to ascertain whether they can reach the academic standards we set. All registered children will be invited to sit the Berkhamsted Entrance Assessment (an online English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning test).

A reference from the pupil’s current school is also required.

The Entrance Assessment for Year 9 2028 entry will be held on Friday 13 November 2026.


Entry Assessment

We will invite all registered applicants to a Holistic Assessment Day. The Holistic Assessment Day for Year 9 2028 entry will be held on Saturday 14 November 2026.

The Holistic Assessment Day will be like a day in the life of a Senior School pupil and will include:

  • an interview

Scholarship & Bursaries

We offer scholarships to celebrate exceptional talent in areas such as academics, music, and sport, as well as means-tested bursaries to support families who may require financial assistance. Below you’ll find the key application deadlines and assessment dates for shortlisted candidates.
