LONDON AREA MATHS CHAMPIONS

LONDON AREA MATHS CHAMPIONS

A successful Berkhamsted Prep maths team, who last year won the competition for Year 5 pupils held at Wellington College for the Berkshire region, travelled to Aldwickbury School in November and emerged victorious in the London Area Year 6 Inter Schools Maths competition.

This timed ‘Countdown’ style maths problem-solving competition for independent and state schools saw the Berkhamsted Prep pupils, working in pairs, compete against 29 other schools, all keen to prove themselves champion mathematicians. At the end of a frenetic but highly enjoyable afternoon, the Berkhamsted team were named overall champions. Prizes were awarded to Ben Howell and Miles Mitchell who won their section 50 points ahead of the runners up. Finn Mortimore and Ryan McPherson were runners up in the ‘B’ section.   The overall winning school was then announced with Berkhamsted being the champion school once again, retaining the title won at this event last year.  “We were delighted to win the event and hold the title won by last year’s Year 6 team at this same event,” reports Berkhamsted Maths teacher Mrs Andrea Taylor. “With achievements such as this, we are enjoying a growing reputation for the excellence of our mathematicians.”
