Over 1/3 of GCSE grades awarded 9 as Berkhamsted celebrates record-breaking results

Berkhamsted is incredibly proud to announce another record-breaking set of GCSE results this year, reflecting our pupils’ character, determination and commitment over the past five years. 

This year, an outstanding 34% of all GCSE grades awarded at Berkhamsted Boys and Girls were Grade 9, the highest grade possible. In addition, 56.5% of grades were awarded at Grades 9-8, a 4.5% increase on last year’s already impressive results. 

These achievements are a testament to the dedication and tenacity of our pupils, as well as the expertise and encouragement of our teaching staff. Pupils and teachers alike are celebrating this remarkable culmination of years of hard work, resilience and ambition. 

At Berkhamsted, academic success is underpinned by far more than just examination preparation. Our commitment to character education for every child, developing the habits, attitudes and confidence to support excellence, benefit pupils both in the classroom and beyond. Through a wealth of leadership opportunities, co-curricular opportunities, sports and community engagement programmes, pupils are encouraged to discover and develop their individual strengths and passions. 

These record-breaking results reflect a school culture where achievement and wellbeing go hand in hand. Stories of pupils balancing academic excellence with active participation in every aspect of school life are abundant, demonstrating the powerful connection between being well, and doing well. Supported by a research-led curriculum, outstanding pastoral care and regular opportunities for pupils to check in on their own growth and progress, every pupil leaves Berkhamsted equipped not only with exceptional qualifications but with the resilience, self-belief and interpersonal skills to achieve future success. 

Berkhamsted’s approach, Developing Remarkable People, is evident in these results. Year 11 leave Berkhamsted Boys and Girls with not only academic achievement, but an all-rounder education, having benefitted from extensive wellbeing support and the freedom to pursue a wide range of interests.  

As they look ahead to the next stage of their journey, many of this year’s GCSE pupils will continue their studies at Berkhamsted Sixth Form, based in the new and inspiring Zaha Hadid building. There, pupils will have the opportunity to deepen their academic interests, embrace new challenges and continue to flourish in an environment that nurtures both achievement and personal growth.
