Girls’ tennis team make history by reaching the National Finals.

A Berkhamsted Girls’ tennis team have qualified for the National Schools Championship Finals for the first time in the School’s history.

The tournament, known as the Aberdare Cup, is the most prestigious school event in the tennis calendar and organised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

The Finals will take place at Nottingham Tennis Centre between 11-14th July.

The journey to the Finals began at the beginning of Trinity term.  Berkhamsted drew a tough opponent in the second round, Queenswood School, who are ranked No 2 in the country for Girls’ Tennis.

Progressing to the next round, Berkhamsted emerged as winners in a closely fought 7-6 win over St Albans.  Finally, the team’s convincing 12-0 win over Bancroft’s secured a place in Nottingham for the National Finals.

Director of Sport Jo Vila said, “We are incredibly proud of the girls for becoming the first Berkhamsted team to qualify for the National Finals. They are all talented and ambitious athletes, and we wish them good luck.”
