Pre-Prep bury time capsule for 500th anniversary

Pupils of Berkhamsted School are looking to the
future to help preserve memories of the past

A joint project between
Berkhamsted Sixth Form and Berkhamsted Pre-Prep has seen a time capsule buried
in the grounds of the picturesque school for children aged 3 to 7.

In 25 years, the time
capsule will be unearthed by future generations to celebrate the School’s 500th
anniversary.

Pre-Prep pupils were asked
to collect artefacts to give future generations of the school a glimpse of what
life was like in 2017, while their fellow pupils in Sixth Form have documented all
their predictions of the world in 2041 for the burial.

The contents inside the
capsule include a collection of photographs, hand drawn portraits displayed on
a tea towel and a video of the whole Pre-Prep performing a specially selected
song to reflect the children’s adventurous approach to learning.

Pre-Prep’s Headteacher Karen
O’Connor said “The children have all taken great interest in the project and it
has raised awareness about what life might be like at the school in 25 years’
time.”

The history and heritage
of Berkhamsted School dates back to 1541, and in 2016 the visit of HM The Queen
marked the School’s 475th anniversary.
