Service Day

On Thursday 2 July, Berkhamsted Girls and Berkhamsted Boys came together to celebrate our annual Service Day: a full off-timetable day dedicated to serving others and making a positive difference in the local community.

Working in their Houses, pupils chose the causes and projects they wanted to support. For some, this meant continuing much-loved traditions. Adders (Boys) and Holme (Girls) hosted a tea party at Nash Harris for local residents, while Swifts (Boys) spent the day at Rectory Lane Cemetery, helping to weed, garden and tidy graves.

Across the School, pupils took part in a wide range of community projects. These included litter-picking around Berkhamsted, completing lifeguard training, and collecting donations for charity shops. Several Houses also supported local charities, strengthening community partnerships while gaining valuable first-hand experience of volunteering. Bees (Boys), for example, spent the day at the Sunnyside Rural Trust, helping to build a stage for upcoming concerts, while other Cox’s (Boys) lent their support at the Pony Sanctuary. New Stede (Girls) made and donated hampers to the Welwyn and Hatfield Women’s Refuge.

Service Day is one of our proudest traditions and an important part of Extended Curriculum Week. It encourages every pupil to reflect on their role within the community and to consider how they can live out our School value, to Serve Others, beyond School. We hope the day proved both rewarding and inspiring, giving pupils a deeper understanding of the charities and organisations that support our local community, while demonstrating the impact that even a single day of service can have.
