Sixth Charity Auction
The Sixth community has reignited their biannual tradition of a musical charity auction, combining performances from our talented students with the opportunity to bid on donated items.
With a strong history of fundraising behind the Sixth team, this year students chose to turn their attention to the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust. This foundation raises critical awareness of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, funds research into lesser-known areas and offers vital support to affected families. Every penny raised at the auction, from ticket sales to auction bids, will go directly to the organisation and their important work.
The auction evening was star-studded with 15 musicians across Berkhamsted Boys and Sixth, who showcased their impressive talent and confidence. From bassoons and Barbershop sextets to a range of powerful vocal performances, this was a fantastic evening of music. Student Barnaby M even performed an original song about his own journey through cancer treatment, bringing a personal touch to the night.
Well done to all of the evening’s musicians:
Barnaby M (vocals and guitar), Zoe A (vocals), Sean W (piano), Tom C (vocals), Tilly B (vocals), Oscar M (vocals), Seren M (vocals), Hannah M (bassoon), Emma B (piano), Millie B (flute), Lois L (piano), and Barbershop performers Ben E, Dom C, Carter M and Oliver M.
The event’s success was partly down to the generous local Berkhamsted community who donated items and attended. Many local businesses and Berkhamsted School families offered impressive vouchers, prizes and items to be placed in the charity auction- we thank these people for the extension of their generosity, and to everyone who bid on these items.
In the end, it was announced that over £5,000 had been raised for this charity: an impressive reflection of our strong community and commitment to Serving Others.
Mrs Kim Holt, who led the organisation of this event, commented on the evening:
“It took some tenacity to relaunch of the Musical Auction Evening, but I am so glad that it is now back on the school calendar as a biannual event. The evening was a huge success: both in the funds raised for a brilliant charity, but also in how the school community came together in one room to do something truly meaningful.
The musicians were fantastic, the atmosphere was brilliant and the auction had a real hustle about it. I left feeling proud, grateful, and honestly a bit heartful. It was just a really special night, and I hope the students recognise what an amazing thing they have done.
On behalf of the charity committee, the Sixth leadership team and the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, thank you to those who gave auction items, to those who supported both the event and the fundraising and to those behind the scenes who made the event happen.”
