Outdoor Education
Sparking a sense of adventure and developing long-lasting friendships.
The Outdoor Education department facilitate a wide range of activities and opportunities for students from across the Schools Group, from high ropes and archery to camping and expeditions. In providing opportunities for students to try new things and push themselves out of their comfort zone we continue to embody the School values and ‘Be Adventurous!’ The focus of Outdoor Education at Berkhamsted School is to provide opportunities for students to try new and adventurous activities, develop and flourish in outdoor passions and hobbies, and find enjoyment in spending time outside in their own way. Throughout their time at Berkhamsted, students are exposed to a wealth of opportunities to get involved in Outdoor Education.
The Outdoor Education department is made up of qualified outdoor professionals and is supported by a number of enthusiastic and experienced staff from across the Schools Group.

Combined Cadet Force
Developing valuable skills for life
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is about developing leadership and having fun, through a military style training programme. Sixth Form cadets gain experience through practicing leadership by taking part in challenging, adventurous and fun activities. We are fortunate to be supported with equipment from the Armed Forces, thus enabling us to offer a varied, challenging and a demanding programme.
Each year cadets participate in a variety of camps and visits across the UK and overseas, run by our own Staff. Cadets are also eligible to study a wide variety of external courses run by the Ministry of Defence. These include formal leadership courses, as well as a plethora of adventure training activities such as powerboat training or gaining a private pilot’s licence!
The opportunities available are incredible and will help to develop valuable skills and strategies they can take into their adult life. Membership of the CCF is entirely voluntary and it attracts a large number of students each year.
