Boys’ battling display at St Albans Hockey tournament

A squad of ten 1st team players, including Joel Hardiman (Y10) called-up for his debut, travelled over to Oaklands College for the annual 7 a –side hockey tournament on Sunday 11 March.

The boys played Forest School in their first game having lost 6-1 to them only a couple of weeks ago at 11 a side. The boys battled well to bring the score back to 2-2 having being 2-0 down but conceded a late goal to eventually lose 3-2.

Our second game versus St Albans 1st XII saw us take the lead early after a clever aerial at the start of the 2nd half which Ollie (Y12) coolly converted. James (Y13), Dom (Y13), Ben (Y13), Freddie (Y11) and Charlie (Y13) then helped keep them at bay until we conceded a short corner late on, leading to a touch of luck in their equaliser. 1-1 the final score.

Thunderbolt

In our last game we played Aldenham 1st XII having beaten their 2nd XI team earlier in the term. This was a close game but we managed to win 1-0 after a thunderbolt of a shot from Archie (Y12).

Unfortunately other results went against us so we finish 3rd in our pool, which meant we ended up playing St Albans 2nd XII. The game took time to settle and at half time the score was 1-1. While fatigue kicked in, however, we managed to score two more and that was it. Final score 3-1 to Berkhamsted.

With thanks to Larry Eaton for giving up his Sunday to support and coach the team.

Team: James (Y13 and Captain), Dom (Y13 and Vice), Joel (Y10 and GK), William (Y13), Eddie Goldstein (Y12), Ollie (Y12), Archie (Y12), Ben (Y13), Charlie (Y13), Freddie (Y11).
