The Cricketer Schools Guide 2025 reveals UK’s best schools for cricket

We are thrilled to announce that Berkhamsted School has been named in The Cricketer Schools Guide’s top 100 senior schools for cricket!

Berkhamsted has been selected out of a large number of entrants who were judged on a variety of factors to assess their cricket provisions. Criteria included the quality of coaching, arrangement of fixture programmes and a ‘compelling commitment’ to cricket, which we are delighted to see Berkhamsted being recognised for.

Huw Turbervill, editor of The Cricketer, said:

‘We’re proud of this coverage, and the 10th anniversary of this guide recognises the fantastic cricket programmes that exist in school curricula up and down the country. One of the most phenomenal things about the last decade is seeing cricket usurp rounders as the sport for girls. Rejoice!’

Berkhamsted’s cricket programme has grown exponentially over the last few years. Following the launch of cricket as our major summer term girls games option in 2019, our 1st XI reached Finals Day of the School Sports Magazine National T20 competition only two years later. We have since appointed Mr Costin as the School’s first Head of Girls Cricket in 2023, and 2024 saw us put out a 2nd XI for the first time.

Last season saw 450 girls play cricket in lessons, 300 play matches in House Cricket and 270 represent the school in competitive fixtures against other schools. We have a large number of pupils playing club cricket, strong representation in the surrounding county age group programmes, and the 2021 1st XI captain, Bethan Miles, is now a professional cricketer at Surrey CCC.

‘We are immensely proud of our cricket programme and are excited about continuing to move things forward. Berkhamsted is a great place for any cricketer to go to school,’ Mr Costin said.

The Cricketer is the world’s No.1 cricket magazine. Founded in 1921 by former England captain Sir Pelham Warner, The Cricketer is the sport’s oldest magazine and has retained its position as the world’s most respected and best-selling cricket magazine. We are so proud of the efforts of everyone involved in cricket at Berkhamsted and look forward to seeing the sport continue to grow.
