ANNOUNCEMENT: RESIGNATION OF PRINCIPAL

The Chair of Governors of Berkhamsted Schools Group, Gavin Laws, has announced the resignation of Principal Mark Steed, who has been appointed as Director of one of the leading schools in Dubai and will leave Berkhamsted at the end of August 2015.

“I have accepted Mr Steed’s letter of resignation with regret as he has led the School superbly since September 2008 and will leave a legacy of innovation and growth that will long be remembered,” said Mr Laws.Mr Steed is the second Principal of Berkhamsted School since the merger of the Girls and the Boys Schools in 1997 and the 32nd head of the school since its foundation in 1541. Under his leadership the School, which Mr Steed described as “a sleeping giant” when he was appointed nearly seven years ago, has grown from strength to strength. Pupil numbers have increased year on year and the School is oversubscribed, academic standards and results have risen, and Kings campus, the home of Berkhamsted Girls, has been transformed through the £8m Nash-Harris development. Other developments have included a merger with Heatherton House School in 2011 to form the Berkhamsted Schools Group and the acquisition of Haresfoot School and Happy Hares Day Nursery in 2012, which has now become Berkhamsted Pre-Prep and Day Nursery. Mr Laws advised parents of the School that the Governors have put in place a process to find Mr Steed’s successor. He also announced that Mr Steed’s wife, Samantha Jaspal, has offered her resignation as Headteacher of Berkhamsted Pre-Prep and Day Nursery and will also leave at the end of August 2015. “Since joining Berkhamsted in June 2012, Ms Jaspal has been a valued member of the school’s top team and has laid the foundations for a highly successful Pre-Prep and Day Nursery. “Whilst we are sad to lose two outstanding individuals, the school is in great shape, we have an excellent team in place and I am sure we will attract top candidates for these roles,” said Mr Laws.
