Year 6 perform Honk!
Berkhamsted was treated to an egg-cellent show last week as Year 6 pupils performed their end of year play: Honk!
An all-singing, all-dancing adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale, Honk! tells the story of an ugly duckling determined to find his place in the world. With the help of a colourful cast of farmyard animals, quirky friends (and enemies), the duckling learns that being different might not be so bad after all.
Commanding an audience of 500 people is no mean feat, but our Year 6s rose to the challenge as they filled the Centenary Theatre with energy and emotion. Double-casting meant more pupils had a chance to display their talent, taking on roles ranging from the innocent duckling to the conniving cat and sympathetic Mother Duck. Others showcased their singing and dancing, with a fair amount of quacking all round!
Pupils conducted themselves with impressive professionalism, dealing with microphones, a live band, set changes, costume changes and pyrotechnics with ease. Their hard work over the last few months memorising lines and learning choreography certainly paid off – not to mention the immense effort of the staff and theatre team who helped pull the production together. Having the opportunity to perform in a professional-standard theatre was an incredible moment for the pupils, and a truly special evening for all those who came to watch.
Participating in the Year 6 play is a chance for pupils to build their confidence and teamwork while making memories together that will last a lifetime. A huge congratulations to everyone involved!
