ST CECILIA’S DAY CELEBRATION

ST CECILIA’S DAY CELEBRATION

An appreciative audience was entertained with a variety of performances by the musicians of Berkhamsted School at the annual Concert for St Cecilia’s Day on Tuesday 19 November.

Featuring a selection of ensembles and soloists, the music ranged from the First Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Allegro – 4th Movement from Symphony No 5, to Sixth Form singer/songwriter Chilli McCallum’s own composition The Long Road. There were performances from the recently established Intermediate Strings Ensemble and Flute Group, and the audience was treated to Year 7 boys and girls performing Straighten Up and Fly Right by Nat King Cole and Irving Mills. The ever-popular Big Band closed the evening with Birdland (arr. Michael Sweeney), I’m Beginning to See the Light (George, Hodges, Ellington and James) and How Sweet It Is (Dozier and Holland, arr. Taylor). Yet again, another superb evening of entertainment presented by our talented pupils and the Music Department.
