Top performances by Linguists at Regional Final

For the second year running, Year 7 MFL students at Kings and Castle have been competing in the National MFL Spelling Bee.

Pupils were given 50 French/Spanish words to learn in September and had to spell as many as possible in the French/Spanish alphabet within one minute. Winners of the Class Final were given 50 additional words to learn in order to compete in the School Final. It was a very close contest amongst all the students but the top 3 winners were in Spanish and they were Ismay Hornshaw, Millie Headley and Nathalie Heath.

These three girls earned a place at the Regional Final in Peterborough on Wednesday 27th April where they put in a sterling performance amongst stiff competition.  Nathalie Heath managed to qualify in the Semi-Finals after a tense tie-break and so progressed to the Final Round. She did extremely well and was placed 2nd out of nearly 11,000 regional contestants which earned her a medal and a place in the National Final. This is a first for Berkhamsted so well done Nathalie! She will now have a total of 200 Spanish words to learn before the Final at Anglia Ruskin University on 1st July.

Congratulations to Nathalie, Ismay and Millie for representing Berkhamsted so well and doing us proud – a fantastic display from some talented linguists!
