U13A XII ARE NATIONAL LACROSSE CHAMPIONS!

U13A XII ARE NATIONAL LACROSSE CHAMPIONS!

There’s no doubt that when it comes to the National Schools Lacrosse Championships we have high expectations of our teams, but each age group faces a challenging journey and to finish in the final 16 is an achievement in itself. To emerge as national champions is no mean feat and this year the U13A XII have joined a select group of teams on the Berkhamsted roll of honour in taking away the National crown.

The girls faced tough competition on their way to securing the Championship title – they beat St Paul’s 3-1 in the quarter finals, Walthamstow Hall by the same margin in the semi finals and went on to defeat Guildford High in the finals. We congratulate the girls on this amazing achievement and look forward with anticipation to some exciting performances in the years ahead for this talented team. On Monday 2nd March, the U13A and B teams travelled to Surrey Sports Park to take part in the National Schools Lacrosse Tournament.   The B team had a tough section playing against all A teams resulting in four losses and a draw, but they considered it good practice in preparation for their County tournament next week. Despite an early start, the A team went out raring to go and won their first three games 5-0, 5-0, 5-1. They then had a close game against Bedford, but managed to score an excellent goal to win 1-0. Their final game of the section against St Catherine’s was a closely fought contest, resulting in a 1-3 loss.  However, despite only losing one match we qualified to go through to the last 16 where we met Wycombe Abbey and won with some particularly excellent defending from Isla Duguid. Another dynamic performance in the quarter finals helped the team towards another victory over St Paul’s. The  team’s confidence was now building, as we knew we were through to the semi-final where we faced Walthamstow Hall, a team we had already beaten in the morning. Fluid passing in the attack and determination to gain possession of the ball led to a 3-1 win. We had made it to the Final. After another motivational talk and a discussion of  tactics the girls were ready for their last big contest. Straight away we won the centre draw and scored.  The whole team played with such passion and determination, resulting in a convincing win of 4-0 to be crowned U13A National Schools Champions. Many congratulations to all.
