Value added is the name of the game: most enter the nursery at national standard, but by year 6 the vast majority are well beyond it, with many of them significantly above.

Pupils develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and resilience to a mature level, encouraged by the school’s focus on perseverance.

🌟At Berkhamsted, we believe in nurturing a social conscience and providing our pupils with ample opportunities to serve others.

Among the most memorable is @First_Give, a national programme that helps UK schools inspire young people to make a positive change in society.

In teams, our Year 9 pupils researched and organised fundraisers for local charities with the four finalists representing @densindacorum, @greenfingerscharity, @hectorshere and @spacehertfordshire.

A panel of judges (consisting of Charities Coordinator, Mr Silvey, School Chaplain, Ms Taylor, and a representative from @dacorumbc ) had the difficult task of deciding which team would win a £1000 cheque for their charity.

The winning team represented Space, a Hertfordshire-based charity that provides support to young people who are neurodivergent. The Space team’s fundraiser challenged Berkhamsted pupils to knock tin cans over with a tennis ball to demonstrate how difficult this activity would be for someone who struggles with hand-eye coordination. So impressed were the judges by this engaging presentation that Space was presented with a cheque of £1000 on behalf of First Give.

On taking part in the programme, the Space team said, “we now have more confidence to speak out and make a change in the community. The experience has helped us develop and understand the issues that many people in our community feel… It was amazing and we are so happy with the work we did.”

Well done to our amazing Year 9 pupils for their dedication and hard work in making a positive impact.

Our children were so excited to welcome a Chinese dance troupe today. A mix of anticipation and curiosity quickly replaced with awe and wonder as they marvelled at the acrobatic dance and the fun of getting to touch the lion as it danced past every child.
A guaranteed memory to last a very long time and an opportunity to appreciate another culture.

Super fun and we all loved it! 🥰

Prep pupils learnt that Our Voice Matters this week during Well-Being week. 📣

Engaging in a range of activities including visiting the Kings Chapel, the children were able to engage in a range of activities to express themselves.

Other activities throughout the week saw Year 6 children hearing Year 3 read and in PE the children took part in yoga, dance and swimming. 🧘💃🏊

Spring is finally on its way.

Our theme in chapel this week is the change of seasons, as we celebrate Shrove Tuesday and the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.

This is a time when we might give up or take up things to connect with God and make the world a better place.
