Don’t be an island 🏝️
This November, Berkhamsted is proudly supporting @Movember to raise awareness about men’s mental health and wellbeing. 💙
Mr. S Simons, Assistant Head of Berkhamsted Sixth, has been championing Movember for 16 years. “For this cause, it’s just as important to raise awareness as it is to raise money,” he says. 🥸
Our Berko Mo Bros and Sistas team – made up of both staff and pupils – have been growing moustaches, running over 100km 🏃♂️, and delivering assemblies to highlight the importance of men’s health.
The Rugby 1st XV, led by James S-J and James B, aim to raise £1,000 this Movember. More than just fundraising, they’re spreading the word about how small steps—like checking in with friends, opening up, staying active, and conducting regular health checks—can make a huge difference.
“Don’t be an island,” says Mr. Simons. “It’s okay to not be okay. Talk your problems through.” At Berkhamsted, we prioritise mental health year-round, offering professional support through counsellors, psychologists, and a system that ensures everyone feels heard. 🐾 Even wellbeing dogs lend a paw!

Year 5 have really enjoyed No Pens Day today by completing a range of activities which have encouraged skills of problem solving, creativity, collaboration and oracy. The children created 3D models of waterfalls, used biscuits to compare fractions, created natural art after a walk in the park, playing games and following instructions to create origami whales. A excellent example of how play creates links in our brains and is a fun and engaging way to learn.

Year 4 have had a busy day at the Verulamium Museum in St Albans. We looked at Roman mosaics, artefacts and learnt about the city of Verulamium. We also walked through the park to see an example of a hypocaust under mosaic flooring! #caesartheday

“When we go down to the woods today….”
The Great Outdoors Club had a great time exploring the woods, enjoying the fresh air and appreciating nature. Time for play and adventure. We noticed how the autumn leaves crunched beneath our feet with the frost – and some snow in places. We watched the sun setting behind the field and used our climbing skills to explore. Fantastic resilience and teamwork all around!
Tired and happy children.

An inspiring assembly from Wells on Wheels this morning. It made us all think about the challenges that others might face and also how privileged we are to have easy access to water and education. It was also motivating to hear how one idea can develop into something that helps others and how we can all do something to make a difference. Thanks to Shaz Memon for coming in to talk to us about this wonderful charity.
