Berkhamsted House System

Berkhamsted Boys is composed of Houses. In which every individual receives pastoral support and academic guidance. Houses are made up of pupils from different year groups from Year 7 to Year 11, and are the centre of pupils’ lives, providing a sense of belonging and encouraging self-confidence. Our Houses provide an environment for cooperation and competition, with Inter-House competitions, music, quizzes, debating and sport. Students regularly fundraise for charity within their House. Here is an example of House Performing Arts:

Sport at Berkhamsted

We are proud of the breadth of our sports offering throughout the School, as well as the number of teams we are able to field each term. We offer the majority of our pupils the chance to play a competitive match.

School Sport Magazine ranked Berkhamsted as the 10th best UK sports school in the 2022-23 season. This prestigious publication celebrates excellence in school sports and annually releases a list of the 200 best UK state and independent sporting schools. Our recognition in the top ten places Berkhamsted in the top 1% of the country’s sporting schools, a remarkable feat that is a testament to the combination of highly skilled, specialist, and passionate sports staff working with and alongside our focused, motivated, and talented pupils.

Leadership at Berkhamsted

Berkhamsted’s Deputy Head of Extra Curricular leads programmes that provide students with opportunities to develop skills and abilities to enhance their awareness outside of the classroom. These activities cover sport, the arts, and outdoor education.

In addition, as the pupils progress through the School, there are many opportunities for pupils to take on leadership opportunities and develop the skills for debating, decision-making, collaboration and public speaking.

Our CCF (Combined Cadet Force) offers students the chance to learn skills that will help broaden their experiences and, in Sixth Form, allows them to take on leadership roles and serve as positive role models.
