SCHOOL ARCHIVE EXHIBITION ROOM OPENS

SCHOOL ARCHIVE EXHIBITION ROOM OPENS

March 2013 saw the beginnings of a School Archive. Previously stored papers, artefacts, boxes and bundles made their way to the West Wing to be sorted, collated, catalogued and stored.

The Summer of 2014 saw great progress in the cataloguing. The addition of an Archive Office and future Exhibition Room gave us space to work and research and start to display the history of our School. With the website up and running – http://www.bsarchive.org/ – the word was out and donations and enquiries were plentiful. Since September 2014 we have received 83 enquiries relating to the School, not all straightforward and some quite bizarre, a recent request to help trace the provenance of a Vintage MG comes to mind. (We could help and the enquirer sent us a recent snapshot of the beautifully restored motor). On 20 March 2015 the Exhibition Room was officially opened as part of the Old Berkhamstedians AGM. The evening was a great success and the OBs arrived with pockets full of car badges, caps and photos that they wanted to donate. Long may it continue. Help in the setting up of the Archive has come from inside and outside the school community but special mention and thanks go to the Principal, The Old Berkhamstedians, The Librarians, Rachel Gordon, Vicky Rees, John Lupton, the IT team and Estates, who have accommodated all the mad designs and work requested of them.
