Aiming high with FutureSmart Careers

Aiming high with FutureSmart Careers

Whether it’s a career in medicine, the arts, or something in between, thanks to Berkhamsted’s fantastic academic and co-curricular offering that equips pupils with the skills and knowledge to achieve anything they wish, the list of careers our pupils could pursue is endless. While it is wonderful that our pupils have the option to aim high in any career path they wish, this much choice can feel daunting for pupils making the jump into A-Levels.

Fortunately, Berkhamsted’s dedicated careers team is providing each Year 11 with a one-to-one session led by a fully qualified careers adviser from FutureSmart Careers this week. Offering impartial and encouraging advice, FutureSmart Careers ensures that pupils feel confident about what they want to achieve and how to get there.

“We work with lots of pupils to support them through their options. We are helping Year 11s to consider their Sixth Form choices while explaining how those choices will help them in university or apprenticeship applications” says Lorna Owen, Director, and Co-Founder of FutureSmart Careers.

Speaking with pupils before A-Levels, Lorna says, can ensure they make the correct steps as early as possible.

“In terms of identifying what they want to do after they leave Sixth Form, it’s really important to have that conversation early, creating the widest number of options for the pupil”.

Freddy, a current Year 11 pupil, has already recognised the benefits of talking to a career adviser in Year 11.

“Speaking to the adviser has helped me get more of a grasp on what I want to do in the future. I now know which subjects to choose at A-Level to get into the course I want to do at university- which has been really beneficial!”

FutureSmart Career sessions not only help pupils plan for their future but also encourage them to become forward-thinking and confident individuals capable of making informed decisions about their future. As Year 11 Issy states

“These sessions have really helped me to figure out my A-levels. Going into these meetings, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but now I feel a lot more confident about what my future looks like”.

A big thank you to the FutureSmart Careers team for offering their fantastic advice to our pupils and to our incredible careers team who continue to help Berkhamstedians thrive both during and after their time at school.
