GOLFER ALICE SIGNS WITH CLEMSON UNIVERSITY

Berkhamsted School Sixth Former Alice Hewson has accepted a scholarship to join Clemson University in the US.  The England International and World Ranked #69 golfer will join Coach JT Horton and the Clemson ‘Tigers’ in August 2015.  Clemson is a ‘Top 20 Public University’ based in South Carolina.

Rather than pursuing a professional career immediately after A Levels, Alice chose to remain amateur and continue her education whilst developing and testing her golf in the US. Alice and her family felt that the American university route was the best option for her in terms of education, facilities and the opportunity to earn a high quality degree whilst playing and competing against many of the world top ranked amateurs on the college circuit. Alice explains: “Last year the entire US Curtis Cup team was enrolled at US universities.  This decision allows me to target selection in next year’s Vagliano Trophy and the Curtis Cup squad in 2016.” Having been heavily recruited by a large number of high profile Universities across the US, Alice was able to utilise the services, contacts and experience of golf placement specialists ProdreamUSA, headed up by former Walker Cup player Lorne Kelly, to narrow down and eventually select the best fit for her.  Alice says: “Selecting a University isn’t just about receiving a scholarship, but about finding the best fit for me as an individual.  Lorne helped me identify a University with a great coach and great facilities, playing in the right division and conference, but also a University that will offer a top notch degree … having visited and met the coaches and my new team mates, I know I’m going to love Clemson”.
