Lent term sport success!
Teamwork has been at the forefront this term with our senior sports teams bringing home ten National title wins across Lacrosse, Netball, Gymnastics, and Fives. This success not only showcases our pupils’ sporting skill but also their collaboration and positive attitude to engagement beyond the curriculum.
The National Netball Schools Finals 2024 took place at Oundle School this term. Berkhamsted U14s made it to the final amongst the 1,500 schools that have taken part this season- a fantastic achievement in itself. After fierce competition across the top 18 teams in each age group, Berkhamsted’s U14s held their nerve winning 8-3 and were crowned champions! Our U19s continued the streak of success by being crowned SistersnSport U19 National Cup Champions, just four days after bagging the ISNC National Champion title!
On these incredible achievements, Head of Netball, Danielle Titmuss-Morris, said: “We take immense pride in the Netball programme at Berkhamsted, and we’re thrilled to continue building on last year’s achievements. This year, we’ve secured an additional three National titles. The unwavering commitment and passion of both our pupils and staff have played a crucial role in making this success possible.”
Continuing the success of the U14s age group was the U14 Lacrosse Squad who also became National Champions this term! The girls battled through difficult conditions to reach the semi-final where they played a tough game vs Putney. In the final, the team were calm and composed on the ball and finished worthy 3-1 winners vs St. Cats.
Our incredible U13 gymnasts, Layla, Poppy, and Isla, won the British School’s National Trios Final for the second consecutive year. The all-girls win was particularly fitting since the final took place on International Women’s Day!
The boys’ school also had their share of sporting success this term, with our Eton Fives U18s, U16s, and U15s pairs each becoming National Schools Champions! Ben and Sam, our under-18s pair, beat off some especially strong competition from Eton College, a remarkable achievement since they are the first in their age group to take the title home for Berkhamsted in 43 years. The three wins made for an incredible week in Berkhamsted Fives history!
When asked about the success of Team Berko in recent weeks, Director of Sport, Tom Pierce, said “We have been delighted with the outstanding successes of our pupils over the past few weeks in their National tournaments. To win ten National titles across our Sports is a testament to the outstanding coaching and teaching the pupils receive. It is also down to the hard work of the Heads of Sport who work tirelessly to support our pupils. We also want to thank the parents for supporting their sons/daughters. We believe in transformational coaching as a department, and coaching our pupils through excellent relationships is the key to success in any Sport. Well done everyone in Team Berko!”
