Sunnyside BBQ

Sunnyside BBQ

Last week we were delighted to welcome back the gardening team from Sunnyside Rural Trust to our annual barbeque and disco, in the School House Garden at Castle Campus.

The Sunnyside team have done a great job maintaining the bedding plants and hanging baskets at St John’s and Incents boarding house, as well as the memorial gardens at Castle Campus, twice a week.

The Year 10 girls from Mr Hatt’s leadership group joined in the fun and games and we saw some great shapes on the dancefloor.

In their sessions, the girls learnt about the different styles of leadership and what makes a functional team. Next year, they will be responsible for planning and organising the barbeque by managing the finances, liaising with the catering team and Sunnyside guests.

The Sunnyside Trust specialises in helping trainees to join in everyday activities in and around the Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead areas. Even though the trainees have their own specialised challenges of Autism, Learning Difficulties and Down Syndrome, this never stops the smiles and laughter every time they visit us, we love having the team around the school.

We’re proud to be part of this community partnership project and look forward to working with the trainees in the years to come.
